Keep It Fresh Award

I was nominated for this award by Lindsay. Definitely go check out her blog! She runs a wonderful blog with another lovely woman Hannah!

Rules

1. Post the rules before starting and link back to this post as a reference for other bloggers.
2. Part A: Answer each of the fruit questions (each fruit corresponds to a book!) & add pictures plus why you thought that particular book deserves that particular fruit if possible.
3. Part B: Choose your favorite fruit (even if it is one of the fruits in part A). Come up with a question that we didn’t ask and answer it.
4. Part C: Create your own smoothie from the fruits in Part A (imagine a Lemon-Tomato-Apple smoothie ~ yuck), and find a book that would correlate to your smoothie!
5. Nominate as many and anyone that you think are deserving of this award but it would be nice if you nominated a minimum of 5!
6. Notify your nominees of the nomination.
7. The most important rules? Have fun and of course, keep it fresh!

Part A:

1. Strawberries – Name the sweetest book you’ve read. (e.g. sweet in terms of the characters or if the story takes place in a sweet world… etc.)

Well, this one was a tiny bit hard for me, I don’t often read books that are ‘sweet’. However, I can think of one that deserves this spot! The Red Notebook by Antonine Laurain was a really short and incredibly sweet romance novel! I adored it!

 

2. Coconut – What is a book that you would bring on vacation with you to a tropical destination? (Or if you’re just relaxing at the beach…)  

It is a tie between Marth Grime’s Richard Jury Series and Robin Paige’s Edwardian-Mystery cozies!

3. Pineapple – What is a book that you didn’t think you would like by judging its cover/summary/the first few pages but started to grow on you?

Definitely Truthwitch by Susan Dennard. I was not convinced the first few chapters, but I became somewhat of a fangirl as it progressed.

 

4. Orange – What’s the juiciest book you’ve read? (e.g. A book with tons of action, romance… etc.)

 

I have to give this one to Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. It was just so magical and exciting, I COULDN’T put it down!!

 

 

5. Watermelon – A watery book (e.g. There wasn’t tons of substance to the book/the details were just too watery…etc. Don’t get us wrong though, we love watermelons!)

 

Scorched by Michale Soll was just lacking in almost everything. The premise was awesome but the execution just held nothing.

 

 

6. Dragonfruit – What’s the most unique book you’ve read? (e.g. Unique in writing style, characters, plot… etc.)

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi was just so incredibly and liryically written that it still resonates with me. Also her writing style is really unique!

 

 

7. Lemons – Name a book that made you feel sour. (e.g. The emotions were just sour, you just felt sour reading the book, or the book includes sour characters… etc.)

 

I Highly regret ever  listening to this book recommendation! I wish I could expunge the first two chapters from my mind (two chapters is all I could stand of this). I love Anne Rice normally, but this book was rediculously dispicable to me. This book should have been called ‘The Raping of Sleeping Beauty’

 

8. Tomato – What is a wonderful book that you think should be more widely known? Or a fantastic author whom you think deserves more recognition? (Since some may not know that tomatoes are actually fruits!)

I LOVE Jonathan Maberry; author of the Benny Imura series (also known as the Rot and Ruin series) and my favorite The Pine Deep Trilogy!

9. Apple – Name a really stereotypical book of a certain genre just like apples which are typical fruits. In the end was that book good or not? (e.g. A very typical contemporary/fantasy book… etc.)

Alienated was your typical YA, Fantasy novel. I literally can’t remember anything that stands out, except that I wasn’t impressed.

 

 

10. Blueberries – Name a book that made you feel blue. (Any sad, depressing books that you’ve read?)

 

 

Orbiting Jupiter was incredibly sad. Just thinking about it makes me feel like I’ve been punched in the stomach!

 

 

11. Grapefruit – Any bitter books? (e.g. a book that was blue but MORE… do you have any bitter resentments towards characters from a book? Any sour turned bitter emotions? Any uber-hateful villains?)

12. Limes – Name a funny book that you’ve read because limes add flavour and so does humour with every book.

Part B: (create your own)

Bananna: A book that despite its mellow flow you are excited to always come back to it. (A book you reread so often you almost know it by heart)

My Favorite Charles Dickens novel ever! I could read this book a million times and never tire of it!

Part C: (smoothie!)

Coconut-Orange-Dragonfruit Smoothie: For the record this sounds gross…but this book I chose is awesome!

 The Library Mount Char by Scott Hawkins was  very unique, full of action, and I would be more than please to read it again on a vacation getaway. In fact I might even understand it a little better!
